4 row taper roller bearing is used successfully in bearing configurations in rolling mills all over the world where rolling speeds are from low to medium.Due to its design, the 4 row taper roller bearing is capable of bearing the axial loads that occur in such applications in addition to the radial loads. In general, no additional thrust bearings are required in the bearing configuration.This means that the roll neck can be relatively short, and the 4 row taper roller bearing housing on both sides of the roll can be of the same design.

Because of the 4 row taper roller bearing design, the bearing must be mounted on the roll housing as a complete bearing.The bearing must be loosely fitted to the roll neck in order to allow rapid roll replacement.The disadvantage of loose fit is that the inner ring creep around its base under main load conditions, which usually causes wear on the base with a hardness lower than that of the bearing ring.In order to reduce the impact of loose fit to some extent, i.e. reduce wear, the bearing has spiral grooves in the inner ring holes and/or oil grooves on the inner ring sides.These slots deliver the lubricant to the contact surface between the inner ring and the base.In addition, the grease filled groove absorbs wear particles.
