What is duplex bearing?

Duplex bearing is two matched bearings that provide precise alignment in the radial and axial directions. Vibrations can be eliminated and higher load capacities achieved by using duplex bearing. Longer service life and higher system reliability are achieved through the use of controlled stiffness within the duplex.

Pairs of duplex bearing can be divided into three categories: back-to-back configuration, face-to-face configuration, and series configuration:
(1) Back-to-back configuration (code name DB): can bear radial load and axial load in two directions. The distance between the action points is large, so it is suitable for applications with large moment loads.
(2) Face-to-face configuration (code name DF): It can bear radial load and axial load in two directions. Compared with back-to-back duplex, the distance between the action points is small, so the moment load capacity is poor.
(3) Series configuration (code name DT): Can withstand radial load and axial load in one direction. Two bearings are used to bear the axial load, so it is used in situations where the load in one direction is large. ‍

The radial clearance of the duplex bearing should be set higher than the usual clearance so that the contact angle, rigidity and axial load become larger.

In order to achieve the best fit, duplex bearing is always calibrated into two groups according to the inner and outer diameters and are packaged and supplied with the same code. If possible, they should also come with calibrated shafts and housings

Therefore, ball bearing fits should be selected carefully because interference fits on the inner and outer rings can change the preload force.
