How much do you know about miniature cylindrical roller bearing?

The miniature cylindrical roller bearing can be divided into different structures such as single row, double row, and multi row cylindrical roller bearings based on the number of rows equipped with the rolling element.
Different structural bearings are also reflected in the design of the position of the retaining edge. The commonly used cylindrical roller bearings have the following forms:

Single row miniature cylindrical roller bearing: Single row cylindrical roller bearing is a separable bearing that is easy to install and disassemble. Both rings can be tightly fitted, and the modified contact line between the roller and raceway can reduce stress concentration.
Single column miniature cylindrical roller bearing can withstand heavy radial loads and high speeds. These bearings are manufactured in several different designs, with the main difference being the structure of the ribs. The most commonly used are NU, NJ, NUP, and N designs.
N-type - The outer ring has no ribs and the inner ring has no ribs, allowing for axial displacement between the shaft and the bearing seat in both directions. Therefore, these bearings are used as non fixed end bearings
NU type - double edge on the outer ring, no edge on the inner ring, the same for the rest.
NJ type - double edge on the outer ring and single edge on the inner ring. Therefore, these bearings are suitable for axial positioning of the shaft in one direction.
NF type - single edge on the outer ring, double edge on the inner ring, the same for others.
NUP type - double edge outer ring, single edge inner ring, and separable flat retaining ring. These bearings can be used as positioning end bearings to provide axial positioning of the shaft in both directions.
NFP type - outer ring with single edge and separable flat ring, inner ring with single edge, and the rest are the same as above.

Double row miniature cylindrical roller bearing: Double row cylindrical roller bearings belong to the category of floating bearings, and their separability makes installation and disassembly very convenient. Both ferrules can be used with a tight fit. Double row cylindrical roller bearings are almost not allowed to have inclination angles.
The double row cylindrical roller bearing has a compact structure, high load capacity, and high rigidity. Therefore, these bearings are mainly used for machine tools, rolling mills, drums, grinders, and large gearboxes.
The double row cylindrical roller bearings designed by NNU and NN are separable bearings, meaning that the roller and cage components can be installed separately from other bearing rings, or all bearing components can be installed separately. This type of bearing is convenient for installation, inspection, and maintenance.
Double row miniature cylindrical roller bearing with cylindrical and conical holes; When installing bearings with tapered holes, the internal clearance can be slightly adjusted and the positioning device structure can be simplified.

The fully loaded miniature cylindrical roller bearing can withstand larger loads and has two structural designs, single row and double row. This type of bearing is suitable for medium to low speed and places with large loads, such as construction machinery, vehicles, steel, lifting machinery, etc.
Single column fully loaded miniature cylindrical roller bearing: NCF and NJG structures, capable of withstanding large radial loads and axial loads on one side.
Double row fully loaded miniature cylindrical roller bearing: NNC, NNCF, NNCL, NNF and other structures can be used as axial positioning or non positioning bearings.
The four column miniature cylindrical roller bearing is mainly used for the roll neck of the steel rolling mill to withstand huge loads. This type of bearing usually uses surface hardened carburized steel to improve wear resistance and impact load resistance, and the cage is usually a machined steel cage or a column cut cage.

What are the functional differences between miniature cylindrical roller bearing and ball bearings?
In the case of the same size:
Speed: Almost the same
Radial load: cylindrical greater than ball bearing
Axial compliance: Cylinders generally bear axial loads in the direction or do not bear axial loads (some models can bear bidirectional axial loads), and are generally used at the free end of the shaft; Ball bearings can withstand bidirectional loads for use at fixed ends. The possibility of interchangeability between these two types of bearings is small, but they are often combined for application.
Cylindrical bearings and ball bearings of the same size: The frictional torque of cylindrical bearings is large, and the rotational speed is almost equal. The limit rotational speed of cylindrical bearings is slightly smaller.
Regarding wear resistance: it is because its load-bearing capacity is greater than that of the ball. Therefore, with the same load-bearing capacity, it is certain that cylindrical bearings have a longer lifespan. The lifespan is generally related to speed, load capacity, and environment.
