The clearance is adjusted by the thickness of the spacer, or the pre interference of the double row tapered roller bearing can be adjusted by the thickness of the spacer.
Four row tapered roller bearings have similar performance to double row tapered roller bearings, but they can withstand larger radial loads and have slightly lower limit speeds. They are mainly used in heavy machinery.
