When the taper lock bearing is used, the disassembly and assembly of the bearing is an important part in the maintenance and repair process. In many cases, during the installation of the taper lock bearing, improper installation will seriously damage the bearing and cause it to be unusable. For example, the small rib of the bearing is broken. This kind of fault is common in the installation of the bearing. According to our understanding, we share the reasons for the fracture of the small rib caused by improper installation of the tapered roller bearing.

1. Taper lock bearing installation failure analysis

During the re-installation of the taper lock bearing, the small rib was broken, and the bearing failed and could not be used. The tapered roller bearing is composed of an inner ring, an outer ring, a cage and 16 tapered rollers. Among them, there are continuous and spaced fractures on the small end rib of the inner ring, and the fractured part accounts for about 2/3 of the whole, and the morphology of the fractured position is "serrated". The fracture position and fracture direction of the small end rib are basically the same. The cracks develop from the raceway oil groove sideward to the small end face until the fracture. The morphology of some fracture positions is the same as the tapered roller end face. The surface of the fracture surface is gray-black, and the fracture is radial pattern, which is in line with the characteristics of brittle fracture. The bearing cage has traces of external force knocking, and the cage is severely deformed along the knocking position. In addition to the above abnormalities, there are no other obvious abnormalities in the bearing.

2. What is the reason for the breakage of the small rib of the taper lock bearing?

This taper lock bearing installation method adopts cold installation, using installation tools such as hammer and copper rod to knock the bearing, and the steel rod is lowered on the cage or directly hit the cage with a hammer. It is mainly reflected in that improper operation causes the bearing cage to withstand abnormal and continuous impact of external force, resulting in the deformation of the cage and the impact of the guide roller on the small rib of the inner ring. When the small rib exceeds the impact load that it can bear, brittle fracture occurs, causing Bearing failed.

3. Correct installation method of taper lock bearing

For tapered roller bearing installation, put the small end of the bearing into the journal first, and then install the bearing to the designated position to fix it by tapping the large end face.

According to the bearing size and operating conditions, the current bearing installation mostly adopts two forms: cold method installation and hot method installation. Cold installation generally uses some auxiliary tools to install the bearing; hot installation generally uses heating to expand the inner diameter of the bearing before installation.

Installation suggestion:

(1) It is recommended that when installing the bearing, the user can choose an appropriate assembly method such as cold fitting or hot fitting according to the bearing size and operating conditions. When cold installation is adopted, the installation sleeve should be used as far as possible to cooperate with the installation, which can effectively avoid abnormal impact on other parts of the bearing and ensure that the end face and the journal are vertical when the bearing is installed. When the sleeve installation cannot be used on site, the copper rod should be pressed against the inner ring of the bearing, and the hammer should be symmetrically and circularly struck in the diameter direction. .

(2) Improve the installation skills of the installers and operate in accordance with the correct bearing installation requirements to prevent damage to the bearings due to operational errors, especially violent operations.
